Sofia Loaiza

Sofia was born in Bogota, Colombia. At the age of nine she decided she wanted to become an artist. At fifteen she began studies at the local government art school in the sculpture class. In 1978, Sofia started studies at the Universidad Nacional de Bogota majoring in Fine Arts with a specialty in sculpture. From 1983 to 2003 she participated in many exhibits in Colombia, developing a deep appreciation for simplicity and directness in art, focusing on immediate impressions and naive art. She emigrated to Canada in 2003 and since then she has had several exhibitions in London, Port Stanley and Stratford, Ontario.
